Yesterday, on my way to getting my hair done and after the car wash, (both tasks resulting in fresh-looking exteriors, btw), I saw incredible sunflowers near a produce stand. As people were picking out the sweetest canteloupe and smelling tomatoes, I pulled out my trusty camera to capture these large, magnificent flowers.
Did you know that sunflowers turn toward the sun wherever it is in the sky? Sunflowers face the sun due to their ability of ‘heliotropism’ or sun-tracking. They have a hydraulic system in the stem which enables them to turn in the direction of the sun, and water builds up on the shady side of the stem, leading to pressure which causes the head to arc toward the light.
Check it out next time you’re able to. And that’s your flower fact of the day!
It’s so nice to be able to get out and do things again! My knee is feeling really good the last few days! Yay!
