Umbrellas

Occasionally I see umbrellas placed on the lawn in front of a local church we frequently drive by and I never have my camera when I see them, or if I do it’s not the right time of day.   (I know it’s a cardinal sin for a photographer not to always have their camera on hand, so I’ve been making a concerted effort to bring it along “just in case”.)

A few weeks ago, there they were!  It was perfect timing because it was late afternoon when the sun was dipping in the sky, and I managed to get a few shots.  They were so colorful!

I’ve tried figuring out why the umbrellas magically appear.  It’s not holiday driven…at least not the typical holidays the states observe, but it may be Catholic-driven.  Even though I went through the Catholic school system, I’m not catholic and don’t remember all the holidays.  One of these days I’ll figure it out.  Perhaps I need to stop in sometime and ask!  There was no one available to ask when I was there taking the pictures.

  1. How beautiful! Is there a reason for their being in front of the church?

    • I wish I knew. There was no one there when I took the pictures. I’ve tried to figure it out based on when I see them but it’s not holiday driven…at least I don’t think so. I’m not Catholic, so I don’t know if there are other holidays I’m unaware of. It’s interesting! And I kind of like the mystery. I should’ve explained that in the post. Think I’ll go back and revise it. Thank you!

  2. Wow, colorful is right! It looks like you used a Lensbaby on the second one. Am I right?

  3. Making me long for summer 🙂 ~ Blessings ~

  4. It’s so easy to find beauty in everyday object if you just “look”. Great shots Laura.

  5. What a mystery… but the colours are good and maybe they just put them out for passerby’s to take a rest under…

  6. Lovely but I don’t think it has anything to do with Catholicism.

  7. Imagining a story to explain why there are there would be an awesome activity – #BeautifulCaptures again, Laura, Thanks for sharing.
