Journey of a body on this earth

This should be a hoot…..

Earlier today I posted a Barn Owl in a color version.  I thought it was appropriate because of the little red barn he was sitting in.  Then later on today I wondered what it would be like in a monochrome version.  I can’t decide, so I’m going to ask you to help me out and vote.  Which one do you prefer?  I’ve included a poll at the bottom.

  1. Color gets a 10 since you’ve been in olympic mood.

  2. I like both because each one evokes a different mood. The monochrome is mysterious. The color one is more cheerful.

  3. I agree with the English Professor at large, they both evoke a different feeling when you look at them. There seems to be a couple of lines just below and to the left of the owl that I don’t think really add anything to the photograph. It sort of looks like the board is broken, but it looks like it goes up into the indoor outdoor carpet.

  4. It has to be colour… it is the character of the bird…

  5. The one in color is most beautiful, looks more alive.

  6. Colour seems more alive here.

  7. Usually I would say colour, and in this case the colour shows off the birds chest feathers, but in colour the the little house does not look as nice, the monochrome is therefore more pleasing to me.

    • I think based on all these comments I’m going to rework the color one….bring out more owl detail, tone down the house and white square on top and then see what happens. Who knows, there may be another owl post in your reader, lol.

  8. Laura I liked the color version when you first blogged it but I like the black and white version even better, because as much as I love the red barn, the color draws my eye away from the owl. when I saw your black and white this AM, my eye went straight to the owl,

    • Thank you by the way for commenting on these photos. The owls are everywhere! It’s amazing how people view things so differently. I’m wondering if I should work on the color one to bring out the detail of the owl, burn the white square on top and see what happens. 🙂

  9. oh, one more thought, I think the main thing on the barn that really draws my attention away is that white box the white on that box is really toned down on the BW version and so it does not distract, perhaps its possible to have the best of both worlds if the white box on the color version was burned down a little more.

  10. Yea…I think the B&W version came out a bit muted and the contrast doesn’t appear very strong. You know I’m a HUGE B&W fan, but in this case, the color rendition is more attractive.

Smart idea putting it out to vote though Laura. I might have to pick your brain and have you give me a wordpress lesson 🙂

    • Funny how different people see these photos! I’m not sure which one I like best at this point but it is true the B&W doesn’t have a whole lot of contrast which is B&W 101, lol. I thought I pulled enough white out in the bird to do it because I know there doesn’t have to be a lot, but perhaps it’s not quite enough. Alas! As for wordpress, go for it! 🙂

  11. I voted B/W as for me the focus of the picture is the owl and not its little barn house. However, I do like the colour and if you are wanting a more fun photo depicting the mini barn house you should go with the colour. So what do you want the picture to be of? MM 🍀

  12. That was a tough choice. I like both version but if I have to pick then its the B&W.
