SFoxwriting’s Alphabet Challenge “Letter E”

I’ve decided to once in awhile participate in the alphabet challenge just for a change of pace (and while I’m still working on images lol).  Today’s letter is “E” for EXCITEMENT!  Mainly because all you photographers out there are going to love this….it’s the “Photographer’s Ephemeris”.   I have no affiliation with this just so you know…I’m just EXCITED!  🙂

So what is this thing anyway?  Well, most of us probably have apps where we can tell where the sun & moon rises and sets and what time, but have you ever wished it showed a street map too that you can drill down to the exact spot you want to stand?  And better yet it showed you exactly where the sun/moon rises and sets and at what time?  This is it!  I don’t know about you but I’m excited.  I can’t wait to give it a whirl.

I’ve been checking it out on the computer and so far I like what I see.  The desktop version is free.  I noticed they do charge for the iPhone app but usually I’m on my computer when I figure out where I want to go later anyway, so this works for me.

  1. Thank you, Laura!!! I am going right now to get the app! (((HUGS))) Amy …. Hope your day is a good one! You must check out my “mystery” photo. It will blow you away. And IF you have answers, please tell me. I am stunned by what happened when I photographed the Moon. xxoo

    • It’s a cool shot! Wish I had some technical answers. I see a lot of noise in the photo so perhaps it’s the noise that’s creating the illusion of it being “nestled”.

      • Hmmm…..noise. I shot at ISO 400. The camera was also hand held. So that could explain for the noise. Hmmm……

      • OH, the other factor that may account for the noise my F Stop was 2.8. All I wanted was the Moon to come in clearly. And because of my hand holding, I must have shook a bit. But, that doesn’t explain how the Moon looks to be right in the branches of the tree itself, as if pulled closer. Still thinking on this …

    • Oops by the way….the app is awesome! And the desktop version is FREE. I’m going to try and use it tonight but it might cloud up for rain tomorrow so not sure I’ll be able to give it a whirl.

  2. Thanks for the tip. I’ll take a look at that.

  3. Sounds pretty cool, I may have to take a look at this. Great photo, by the way.

  4. I spend some time on the desk top version of the TPE software. I’m impressed with the simplicity of using the application and with its sophistication. I’ve already loaded locations where I’ll shooting. It also has the capability of selecting specific locations from Google Earth and web based locations that have used the drop pins to select a specific place. Thanks for the recommendation. Now I have to wait for the sun to come out.

  5. Thanks for the application tip – I’ll try it out – this is something I have been doing manually and if it works – it will save a lot of time and dud shots.
