I used to get asked…what *is* this place? Is it a nuclear reactor? So let me put your minds to rest, no, it is not a nuclear reactor and there is nothing sinister going on here although it could be fun to imagine. It is not a large golf ball sitting on a building and it’s not an artful architectural design. There is purpose for this building but I cannot tell. Ssshhhh I have been sworn to secrecy by the higher echelons of our government …. well, that’s not really true but it started to sound interesting didn’t it? 😉
Please see the entire gallery at Leanne Cole’s blog later today!

December 2, 2014 at 1:18 am
Hard to believe but I wasnt thinking of you when I photographed this
December 2, 2014 at 1:20 am
Well, that’s a tease!
December 2, 2014 at 7:34 am
Who moi?
December 2, 2014 at 3:30 am
I love the geometric shapes broken by the tree silhouette 🙂
December 2, 2014 at 7:34 am
Thank you Sarah 🙂 It is an unusual building.
December 2, 2014 at 9:50 am
Certainly is! Reminds me a bit of the glasshouse structures of the Eden Project in Cornwall.
December 2, 2014 at 11:25 am
I’m embarrassed to say I don’t know what that is.
December 2, 2014 at 12:14 pm
Ooh, you must Google it!! It’s a collection of ecosystem glasshouses with temperate and tropical zones set in gardens created in a huge old quarry. It’s amazing!
December 2, 2014 at 1:05 pm
OMG! That is absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!
December 2, 2014 at 2:49 pm
Lol 😉 Isn’t it though!?! I haven’t visited for years now and keep meaning to get Simon down there when we actually get a bit of free time. I was blown away when I first saw those domes 🙂
December 2, 2014 at 3:08 pm
Truly…I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it.
December 3, 2014 at 9:49 pm
It isn’t a complete shock to me really! Anything outside of London is usually ignored by the rest of the world. London’s cool but it’s also crazy and costly! There’s so much more to the UK. Other great cities but also our beautiful countryside and wilderness areas.
December 4, 2014 at 7:23 am
My son-in-law is from the UK, Coggeshall actually. What a beautiful, quaint town! We loved it!
December 4, 2014 at 11:53 am
Ah, yes, the more remote places are just lovely 🙂 Some of the UK almost feels untouched by the last century. Especially when you have no network or data connection 😉
December 4, 2014 at 4:04 pm
Whhhaaaat? No network or data connection??? Maybe I’ll stay home LOL
December 5, 2014 at 5:21 am
Terrifying right? Te he 😉
December 2, 2014 at 3:36 am
I’m glad you were sworn to secrecy…”never show the monster”
The nice rendering makes the structure look all that more sinister too.
December 2, 2014 at 7:34 am
Whew, I knew you’d understand. BWHAHAHAHAA
December 2, 2014 at 4:16 am
Cool image! The processing really brings out the drama in the scene.
December 2, 2014 at 7:35 am
Drama? ME?????? 😉
December 2, 2014 at 5:10 am
Love it!
December 2, 2014 at 6:43 am

I’m glad you like it! Sometimes I feel chatty and sometimes I don’t. Kinda like Almond Joy with the nuts.
December 2, 2014 at 2:19 pm
I am not the writer kind! So totally understand
December 2, 2014 at 10:35 am
Great shot! It certainly does have a mysterious look to it and then throw in your mystery comment – well I am going to take a guess on what this structure could possibly be – perhaps a planetarium? With its dome top – I can envision viewing the sky as the roof opens.
December 2, 2014 at 11:15 am
Thank you so much thephotoseye. It is not a planetarium but that’s a good guess! I love it when people guess.
December 2, 2014 at 11:24 am
Very nice. It is a bit mysterious. The moody sky helps.
December 2, 2014 at 11:27 am
Yes the skies were very dramatic that day. Thank you Tim.
December 2, 2014 at 11:29 am
The sky’s might be very dramatic today with clouds moving through so quickly. I’d like to catch some lightning but that may be be beyond possibility.
December 2, 2014 at 12:59 pm
Don’t I wish! You know how rare that is around these parts, especially directly in the bay area. But I would love it!
December 2, 2014 at 1:02 pm
About a rare as two felines strolling along a walkway in a downpour.
December 2, 2014 at 1:06 pm

December 2, 2014 at 1:00 pm
Thank you! and LOL 😛
December 2, 2014 at 1:48 pm
I love geodesic domes! Your photograph captures its wonder. Buckminster Fuller would be proud. Is that the Chabot Space and Science Center?
December 2, 2014 at 2:36 pm
Thank you! It is not Chabot Space and Science Center but good guess!
December 2, 2014 at 3:10 pm
I am eager to learn what the dome is!
December 3, 2014 at 7:28 am
Hmmm…do I tell……*thinking*
December 3, 2014 at 8:20 am
Yes, please!
December 3, 2014 at 8:24 am
You are the first to know…The dome is a high voltage electrical testing facility, built in that shape because for the types of testing done, a big space is needed. It can go to very high voltage — over 700,000 volts. The facility is used to test transformers, power lines and other types of electrical equipment that may be malfunctioning or problematic. Scientists and engineers often work in conjunction with state and federal agencies to test energy efficiency and safety.
December 3, 2014 at 8:28 am
Is it on Mt Diablo? Thank you!! It was driving me batty trying to figure out where it was.
December 3, 2014 at 8:30 am

December 3, 2014 at 8:31 am
Thank you so much! Now my OCD can give it a rest! LOL!
December 3, 2014 at 8:32 am
I’d be the same way lol. Glad I could calm you down haha
December 2, 2014 at 5:35 pm
It is an enclosed golf range. I think. Either that or you shot to another planet. LOL Great job, Laura!!! Love, Amy
December 3, 2014 at 7:29 am
haha, nope nothing to do with golf at all. I have to put the thrusters on now…I’m coming in for a landing. 😉

December 3, 2014 at 7:30 am
Nope! Not that. I love it that no one knows! bwahahaha
December 3, 2014 at 2:28 am
Hmmmm methinks that it’s a greenhouse. Or an observatory. Or a greenhouse observatory. So mysteeerious 😀
December 3, 2014 at 7:31 am
Thank you for your guesses….but nope! It is mysterious isn’t it. 🙂
December 4, 2014 at 7:42 am
it’s for mind control, I just know it is. sort of like sitting under a pyramid to tap into cosmic energy
December 4, 2014 at 8:58 pm
A classic Buckminster Fuller geodesic dome!
