I did end up asking this girl if I could take her photo but that was after I took this LOL. It did feel a bit odd sneaking up behind her. Taking photos of people is not something that I get excited about, but once in awhile I’ll give it a whirl….and then I remember why I like landscapes, macros and architecture so much haha.

Nicely composed. You probably did what I do when I take candid shots, which is show them the pic and say what I intend to do with them. Some people are pleased – others don’t want to appear on a blog. Mostly I ask before I take the picture, but sometimes that ruins the moment.
January 20, 2015 at 6:31 am
I didn’t show her the pic but I did get her email address and sent them to her because she asked after she agreed to the photo. Never heard from her though. Guess I got the wrong address or she didn’t like it or she never made it back to the beach after her next surf! Yes that’s my poor attempt at humor. lol
January 20, 2015 at 2:19 am
Great photo =)
January 20, 2015 at 6:32 am
Thank you 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 2:35 am
A nice contemplative moment, well-captured 🙂 At least you got her permission. 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 6:32 am
Thank you. And yes I did. That’s my portrait shooting allowance for the year. 😉
January 20, 2015 at 6:41 am
haha But it was a good one 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 6:47 am
Thank you 😀
January 20, 2015 at 3:03 am
Well composed, nicely done Laura.
January 20, 2015 at 6:32 am
Thanks so much! BTW…you’re going to think I’m terrible, but what is your name again? If you don’t mind? I’m so sorry I forgot. 😦
January 20, 2015 at 3:05 am
Dark in photo good 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 6:33 am
Thank you Tom 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 3:39 am

January 20, 2015 at 6:33 am
Thank you Rob 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 4:02 am
Very nice photo! … and I know exactly what you mean! 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 6:33 am
LOL Thank you!
January 20, 2015 at 4:06 am
yea … telling them tends to ruin the moment ….. its better to take the shot and maybe later show them …
January 20, 2015 at 6:33 am
That’s what I figured…I’d get a phoney posed shot if i asked first.
January 20, 2015 at 7:51 am
YEA … when u tell them .. they are always conscious of how they look and their shapes … which ruin the moment .. as a photographer you get to capture the right moment that the person would apreciate …
January 20, 2015 at 4:45 am
Yes, I do like this “portrait” although I don’t know what your other shots looked like. I have zero rapport with people which is why I shoot what I do. Nice one for the challenge.
January 20, 2015 at 6:35 am
I only had one other really and it was color. If I still have it that is. What’s weird is that I think my people skills are really good and I’m pretty friendly here in my every day life (shocker I know) but I really hate taking photos of people! Go figure.
January 20, 2015 at 8:08 am
People are difficult unless you have an existing relaxed relationship with them.
January 20, 2015 at 8:49 am
Or unless you’re me and can bring them out of their difficult moments lol. I’m really good at it. *Grins*
January 20, 2015 at 5:53 am
The only photos of people I take are of my kids. I don’t think I could do any sort of street photography or take photos of other people. Perhaps if a human element would add to the photo I might do it if the opportunity comes up, but most of the time I’m actually taking photos when no one else is around. I always like to be secluded and away from others when I’m out taking photos. Unless I’m on a photo walk with other photographers of course.
January 20, 2015 at 6:35 am
Me too Justin. i can totally relate. Taking people photos and viewing people photos (unless they were my kid photos) are just not exciting to me at all. Nature is what does it for me. Thanks for your comments.

Love your composition, Laura. Easier when their back is turned! The texture of the sand with the smooth board is a nice contrast.
January 20, 2015 at 7:48 am
LOL yes it is Jane. I’m a chicken. I’m glad you like the contrasting textures. 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 7:47 am
Dont be shy. Nice bw
January 20, 2015 at 7:49 am
Aw thanks!
January 20, 2015 at 8:54 am
It’s a lovely portrait…what’s not to love? I’m the other way round -much prefer shooting people.
January 20, 2015 at 8:58 am
Thank you glance 🙂 You and I are what makes the photography world go ’round! 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 9:38 am
Laura, I like this image for its lines and shapes.
January 20, 2015 at 11:36 am
Thanks Tim 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 12:29 pm
You’re welcome. I also like the textural feel of this beach sand.
January 20, 2015 at 12:35 pm
That’s what drew me to the photo actually. Glad you like it. 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 10:15 am
Love everything about this…..perspective, composition and that gorgeous light
January 20, 2015 at 11:36 am
Thanks so much Mark for your comments. I’m glad you like it!

January 20, 2015 at 11:36 am
hehehehe Thanks Julie 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 11:03 am
Great shot! Funny you asked her after – but at least you asked her. I like to “try” and take street shots sans them knowing – I shoot from behind as your shot. And I now sort of shy away from street shots as I got yelled at – I was trying to get a shot – not full frontal face – and she and her husband started screaming at me (in French I live in Paris) – I did not even take a shot – I walked away – a bit shocked – and have been humbled by this! 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 11:37 am
Geez…that’s awful! lol I think I’d never take another people shot in my life! Well, I asked her only because she turned around after this shot and I felt like I had to haha.
January 20, 2015 at 11:57 am
Great composure, excellent photo!!
January 20, 2015 at 12:33 pm
Thank you John!
January 20, 2015 at 12:17 pm
I like the photo….it kind of has a mysterious air about it…makes you wonder who she is and what she’s doing all alone on that beach, even what she’s thinking. Yep, good picture!
January 20, 2015 at 12:35 pm
Thank you so much! i’m glad you wonder all those things. It does have that air about it.
January 20, 2015 at 12:53 pm
Oh wow, I love this photo!
January 20, 2015 at 12:54 pm
Thank you so much Valerie!
January 20, 2015 at 2:26 pm

January 20, 2015 at 8:06 pm
Thank you 🙂
January 20, 2015 at 9:06 pm
I think the shot is excellent, but then again, I’ve always been partial to black and white and you do such a good job of it.
January 21, 2015 at 8:15 am
Thanks so much! I’ve never really thought of myself as a bw kind of photographer but i do enjoy keeping my fingers in it weekly with the challenge.
January 21, 2015 at 12:55 am
Lovely composition, great perspective….
January 21, 2015 at 8:15 am
Thanks much Sue 🙂
January 21, 2015 at 9:37 am
wonderful composition Laura. I love your mono! Surfing in winter!! Brrrr! I guess I’m too old for that sort of thing!! 😀
January 21, 2015 at 11:40 am
Thanks Hannah! Yeah I can’t imagine it either lol. It was a nice day as a pedestrian though!
January 21, 2015 at 2:46 pm
You are so funny the the the way you put things, Laura. Sneaking up on people. But permission to photograph is an interesting topic. I guess the best policy is to request permission and hope that your photo doesn’t become famous. Apparently that’s when all the problems begin 😊. Yep, landscapes are simpler tee hee.
January 21, 2015 at 8:24 pm
Hehe im glad you like ny *ciugh* style. ;). Definitely sticking with non people most of the time. lol
January 21, 2015 at 2:52 pm
And this is so nice that it could become famous!
January 21, 2015 at 8:25 pm
Dont i wish!!! Thank you for such a nice compliment. 🙂
January 21, 2015 at 3:09 pm
She appears wistful. Maybe because she has no surf. Cool photo!
January 21, 2015 at 8:26 pm
I think so too! And thank you 🙂
January 21, 2015 at 4:42 pm

January 22, 2015 at 2:33 pm
Very fine photo – I like the perspective. Monochrome Madness is NICE – I feel I am beginning to be dependent 😉
January 22, 2015 at 4:23 pm
Perfect shot Laura.

Wow thank you, Shane! 🙂

January 23, 2015 at 4:42 pm
Happy Friday to you too!! And thanks! 😀
January 26, 2015 at 1:49 am
I love the photo! it will often “grab” the photo and then show people what I have, always emailing them a copy. sometime I hear from them, sometimes I don’t. I just can’t resist the temptation when I see a great image….. no one has ever asked me to delete an image through so I am happy about that.
January 26, 2015 at 7:03 am
Thank you! And yes it’s a good thing no one asked you to delete it. That would be disappointing.
