I took my camera club to a mortuary the other day and thought I’d post this selfie. People were dying to sign up for this excursion, lol. Bad I know. 😛
The Chapel of the Chimes mortuary was designed by Julia Morgan who designed Hearst Castle in California. The black and white image doesn’t show her art as a designer as this is a newer part of the building, so I’ve included a gallery below for you to see what the Chapel of the Chimes design is all about.
Please check Leanne Cole’s blog out later today for the entire gallery.

February 10, 2015 at 6:35 am

February 10, 2015 at 4:11 am
Is this the Chapel in Oakland on Piedmont Avenue?
February 10, 2015 at 6:36 am
Yes THAT Chapel of the Chimes. I have a lot of relatives there.
February 10, 2015 at 4:52 am
Beautiful space – even in context for what it is – good to see you out and about too 🙂
February 10, 2015 at 6:36 am
I think some people thought I was nuts for scheduling a trip to a mortuary LOL. C’est la vie! Oh wait…. 😉
February 10, 2015 at 8:19 am
I however fully understand…

Thank you Amy. 🙂 It’s such a cool place to photograph.
February 10, 2015 at 7:53 am
Very nice shots Laura! There’s some very nice natural lighting in some of these. You should add your faceless selfie to this Nat Geo contest – http://yourshot.nationalgeographic.com/assignments/faceless-portrait/
February 10, 2015 at 8:33 am
Thank you Shane. 🙂 The natural lighting in there is really incredible. Thanks for the link! I think I’ll do that. Much obliged.
February 10, 2015 at 8:45 am
Aww the submission time is over. 😦
February 10, 2015 at 12:15 pm
Bummer! I like the “Your Shot” thing that NG has going on. I bet it was created in part to crowdsource images from around the world.
February 10, 2015 at 2:29 pm
Yes! i’ve signed up and have been looking. It’s cool. Thank you for letting me know.
February 10, 2015 at 8:50 am
However I did enter it into the “Someday” competition. Not that such a morbid thing would win. 🙂
February 10, 2015 at 12:16 pm
Nice. I’ve entered one or two images in thr past but I never seem to find the time.
February 10, 2015 at 8:33 am
Love the selfie. Not too pretentious, I’d say 🙂
Really nice captures as well. Love that lens!
February 10, 2015 at 8:49 am

February 10, 2015 at 9:17 am
Quite a place! Seems very peaceful. And I love you selfie!
February 10, 2015 at 10:12 am
It really is Otto…there is a lot of repetition there too which I didn’t quite catch. Next time. And thank you about my selfie! 🙂

February 10, 2015 at 11:56 am
Laura bl**dy Nora (excuse swearing) what a location – stunning captures will have to place it on my bucket list
February 10, 2015 at 2:23 pm
Thanks so much Scott. lol I’m glad you like this place. It is really beautiful and even more so in person.
February 10, 2015 at 2:27 pm
It’s has the lot – uniformity shapes colour – the impact of the location – roll in some emotion and voilà 😃
February 10, 2015 at 2:33 pm
Voila indeed! This place has a lot of symmetry as you noticed. It’s quite lovely. Thank you Scott.
February 10, 2015 at 12:39 pm

February 10, 2015 at 2:30 pm

February 10, 2015 at 2:39 pm
I feel this image has some crypt ic meaning. Buried in the back of my mind, is an interred memory of this place. This thread has come to dead end Laura – I’m dead outta droll comments
February 10, 2015 at 3:29 pm
You are too funny.
February 10, 2015 at 2:05 pm
Beautiful images Laura and I like your selfie!! There is a church in Paris that is all stained glass Ste. Chapelle, this reminds me!! I guess as nice a place as any to rest up!!
February 10, 2015 at 2:33 pm
I love all these puns people are making. I must really get a life hahaha
February 10, 2015 at 6:46 pm

February 11, 2015 at 6:54 am
😛
February 10, 2015 at 6:54 pm
Very nice selfie – architectural view. The perspective strange and disturbing. That may be the reason I like the image.
February 11, 2015 at 6:55 am
I’m glad you like my weird image. I think it’s weird too lol.
February 11, 2015 at 5:20 am
A beautiful chapel, Laura. Love the selfie. 🙂
February 11, 2015 at 6:57 am
Thank you! On both counts. 🙂
February 11, 2015 at 4:48 pm
hmmm, my previous comment disappeared, perhaps for the best. this is a lovely place, but not where I would want to be stored away, for I am of elements, made of dust and rain and wind.
February 11, 2015 at 4:52 pm
Oh…I wonder what comment it was. Just fyi I didn’t delete it. I’m back to the area where I love. I can’t feel comfortable anywhere else to live. i’ve tried. I think we know when we feel “home”.
February 11, 2015 at 5:37 pm
nah, it was me doing something, what I don’t know. I was just thinking on your blog about why I would want to be in a place like this when I could be combining with more elemental forces, out in nature. Perhaps they might find me 20 years after I should perish, somewhere out in the wilds. I would like that, I think.
February 11, 2015 at 5:43 pm
We all end up the same though….somewhere in the ether…….
February 11, 2015 at 4:52 pm
I did not know you were so tall, Laura, I envision you around 5’6″ and not 8′. I like the pink rose especially.
February 11, 2015 at 4:53 pm
hahaha….I am 5’5″ definitely not 8′. Maybe my alter ego likes being tall eh? Thank you re: the pink rose. 🙂
February 11, 2015 at 5:46 pm
From now on I shall envision you at 5’5″. One inch shorter than I thought might be! 🙂
February 11, 2015 at 5:47 pm
😀
February 12, 2015 at 8:58 am
These are gorgeous!
February 12, 2015 at 9:02 am

Impresive gallery dear Laura ⭐ best wishes to you! Aquileana 😀
February 12, 2015 at 10:06 am
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
February 13, 2015 at 7:39 am
A beautiful gallery (I left comments at 3 photo-stops), and I’m glad your selfie was what it was. I was having terrible visions of my favorite photographer wrestling away with a selfie-stick, OMG, May it never be! 🙂 (Just kidding.)
February 13, 2015 at 7:40 am
hahahaha re selfie-stick. Too funny. Thank you for viewing the photos! Most of those were pretty much straight out of the camera. Usually I will take my best ones and work on them and post them one by one, but because this was from my camera club, I came right home and posted them on our website for everyone to see so I never really did much to them.
February 20, 2015 at 5:29 pm
What a beautiful place. I like what you’ve done with your hair. It shows wonderfully in that selfie of you :p
February 20, 2015 at 6:55 pm
It really is a neat place Sue. Thank you for noticing my hair hahaha.
December 5, 2016 at 1:33 pm
And mixed in there was the controversial kidnapping of the young Patti Hurst and the feud between those who supported Israel and those who supported the Palestinians.
December 5, 2016 at 2:32 pm
The “kidnapping” you mean? I never believed she was kidnapped. Neither did a couple of the tour directors that have worked there for 25 years.
January 5, 2017 at 9:33 am
I will not be doing this, but I found this an interesting subject. Well done.
