One Photo Focus – July REPOSTED

I inadvertently posted this a few days ago so I rescheduled it to post today which is the day it should’ve posted.  Sorry if a lot of you have already seen it!!

It’s that time again….One Photo Focus is here!  Every month Stacy gives us a photo and we edit it to come up with our own take.  Below you’ll find my image as well as the original which was provided by Robin Kent, so thanks Robin to a really fun image this month!  And if you have time, check out Stacy’s blog to see everyone’s submissions.  Quite fun to see what everyone comes up with.

I wonder if my recent viewing of Jurassic World had anything to do with my edit lol.

Basic Process:

1.  Inserted two dinosuars…of the walking and flying sort.

2.  Isolated white house and reduced the brightness of it so the image felt more balanced.

3. Colorized and added texture to image via Nik Analog filter.

4.  Colorized the eye and tongue of the tyrannosaurus rex.

5.  RAWR!

  1. This is so cool! Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚

  2. I love what you’ve done with it. Also makes a striking point, somehow, about where the US and everywhere around the world is going.

  3. This is great fun. My kids love it and wanted to know if I could photoshop a dinosaur into a photo of our house and them. I had to disappoint them but perhaps this image will inspire them to learn how to photoshop.

    • Glad you liked it. How funny that your kids asked that question. I hope they get inspiration! That would be the best thing EVER for me to give inspiration.

      • My oldest (12) has done some basic photoshopping. I have the programme just for correcting things and cropping. Creative use is beyond me (and I only have Elements) but perhaps they will run with it and have more fun.

        • You can do this with Elements. As long as you have the capability of creating layers which I think Elements does. Depending on the version. i think 4 years ago it might not’ve had that capability but I’m not sure. I love Dave Cross from Adobe for explaining layers. That’s the power of photoshop and the core of it. So if they know about layers, they can do anything!

  4. *jaw dropping* OH wow!!! How you did this I have NO idea but the outcome is mind blowing!! Your processing skills are awesome, Laura. I hope to one day know how to do something like this. Time and Life ….. hmmmmm ….. no comment. πŸ˜‰ GREAT JOB!!! (((HUGS))) Amy ❀

  5. Woow… !! The processing is beyond me. Amazing result, Laura!

  6. Awesome edit Laura!! ROAR! πŸ™‚

  7. Thats bloody fantastic Laura, really impressive πŸ™‚

  8. Well worth seeing twice! Very cool dinosaurs! πŸ™‚

  9. Yes I wondered what that was all about. Had ISIS unleashed it’s herd of T-Rex’s on Washington and no one had told me….

  10. great idea! and so professionally executed!

  11. love love love this Laura! I’ve seen Jurassic World twice and can’t wait to go again. What a cool response!

  12. This is fantastic, Laura! I saw ‘Jurassic Park’ recently and wouldn’t mind a dinosaur outbreak in say Golden Gate Park?

    • Thank you K’lee. haha yes! Funny, back when I lived there in my early 20’s, I’d walk inside GGB and notice those huge prehistoric looking trees and thought the same thing!

      • See? The perfect setup. Dinosaurs would LOVE Golden Gate Park! People? Maybe not so much…

        • They would have snacks of homeless people. Whoops, did I say that???? Terrible I know. πŸ˜›

          • I think I just choked on my sweet potatoes! Unfortunately, you may be right… or dinosaurs would let them live and go after only those humans walking around with the glowing screens in front of their faces all the time? I mean, their visual acuity IS based on movement and light, right?

          • Shall I call 911? lol But I think you’re right. They’d be attracted to the glowing screens. I’d better put mine away!

          • No, no (cough, cough, hack!) I’m fine, but thank you! I can see it now… quite a few would NEVER put them away. They’d have the sense to run, but what’s happening on the screen would be way more important than some forty-foot dinosaur chasing them! Eventually many would just stop… in the middle of the street or park, reengage with said screen and provide easy pickings!

          • Whew, glad you’re ok over there!

  13. Now I’ve seen the others, I can tell you that yours is my favourite!

  14. So, reading through your replies to comments, yours IS a political statement πŸ˜‰ Such awesomeness, Laura. Love the well-balanced tone and the touch of turquoise in the TRex’s eye! You make the process sound so easy, but after struggling with trying to adjust the saturation on the Capitol on my interpretation, I’m not convinced πŸ˜‰ Thanks for listing the tip about Dave Cross. I will definitely be looking him up!

Thanks, always, for your enthusiasm for 1PF and thanks for reposting!

    • Thank you for liking those little touches I put in the edit. πŸ™‚ I would be happy to Skype with you and share my screen sometime if you want a quick lesson in layers. Dave cross is awesome but his courses can be pricey. But once you own them you can go back and review them over and over. That’s what I did. You’re welcome for the enthusiasm … now I’ll work on my scheduling LOL!

  15. Really, really cool! When I saw it I thought it was one of Ben Rowe’s creations. You surprised me. Love it.

  16. Well, all I can say is it’s a good thing this wasn’t a contest because I think we would have a winner. You just keep getting better every time I see your work- which is almost daily. And my jealousy grows exponentially. You, know, they say no matter how good you are, there’s always someone better. But do you have to be so much better? (I bet you’re beautiful, too. Talented and beautiful. It must be a curse!)

    • You are so sweet and I’m officially embarrassed now! Thank you Emilio for your boost of confidence. I really LOVE photoshop. And yes *sighs*…such a huge cross for me to bear with all this beauty and talent. *cough cough* LOL! Hope you are having a great Friday. πŸ™‚

  17. So which one is the original White House photo?

    • Hmm touch choice eh? πŸ˜‰ I think you are being facetious but just in case you’re not…the one without the dinosaur. My edit is the dinosaur. πŸ™‚

  18. jaw dropping, Laura. This is photo editing at it’s best, as far as I see it. Great interpretation and imagination! LOVE.

  19. Wow! You have the best imagination .. I bet you were laughing! Great editing L πŸ˜ƒ

    • Oh Julie…you KNOW I was cracking up. Seriously…I was getting a kick out of it even down to the touch of pink on the T-rex’s tongue lol! Thanks so much…high compliment from you!!

  20. Yes on the monochrome…well done.

  21. Fantastic edit, Laura. I nearly fell out my chair when I saw it this morning. Absoutely wonderful. You could license this as a poster for a sci-fi movie or book cover.

  22. love, love, LOVE it!!!!! this is so cool, fantastic job. I have not seen Jurassic World yet, but I will do

  23. You have created a splendid composite image. It seamlessly done, and I think the colorization made it all very coherent. It’s a great picture!

  24. This is fantastic, Laura! I just came back from seeing Jurassic World and this is perfect! Great interpretation of Robin’s photo.

  25. You were playing and having fun here! Love it!

  26. This is hilarious and fun and a fantastic job on the compositing πŸ™‚

  27. Brilliant idea Laura !
    Ciao ciao
    Max

  28. This is awesome! Great job! I love the extra color that you added to the T-Rex’s eyes and tongue. πŸ˜€

  29. Laura you did a great job with this challenge! I loved the way you got the idea to add the dinosaurs and bring the photo back to a Mesozoic Era at the dinosaurs age. I looks great! I love the color base you gave and the hint of color in the eyes and tongue that is a cool plus πŸ™‚ I am sure that you had lots of fun doing it πŸ™‚

  30. fantabulous and perfect for Jurassic World opening. I just love people running and screaming!! Do you know I found a coprolite on one of our cretaceous tours. It’s sitting on my table and I don’t let people know what it is till they pick it up or touch it. lol

  31. A really fun interpretation!

  32. Great imagination and a fun image. I loved your comment about plunking Obama in the dinosaur’s mouth. You might have had CIA parking outside your door though.

    • Thank you about the image. Ah you saw that eh? Hopefully I am not being watched! lol I would’ve put any president on any side in that dinosaur’s mouth. πŸ˜›
