Here are a couple more from the evening I went to the Berkeley Marina with my camera club. These are of the Berkeley Pier. Initially I had wanted to do a long exposure but I just wasn’t in the mood to drag my tripod out with me. It was very windy and I decided I didn’t want my camera crashing over on the pier. My blog would come to a grinding hault if that happened. God forbid! lol
The first image was taken from the parking lot looking at the pier from the side and the second was taken on the pier. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Nice, Laura! It’s freeing to ‘lose’ the tripod occasionally 😊.

Admittedly I hardly ever use one unless it’s a long exposure or studio work. I’m terrible about using one! Bad me! lol

My husband gave me a carbon fiber travel tripod recently. It is so light! There’s only so much you can carry. I think packing a kit has now become an art too 😊.

I really need a travel tripod. I have this rolling camera bag and it has a place to put a tripod but it can’t be a huge tripod. I need one of those light ones! Thanks for the suggestion.

My two-year-old grandson carried it for me yesterday with the strap around his neck pretending it was a guitar and singing 😊.

Awww that is too cute!! Love that. 🙂

More gorgeousness (I think I may have just made up a word😉) from Berkeley, Laura! Such amazingly foreboding skies. Both images just ooze the “power” of Mother Nature!

Thank you Stacy! I think you coined a word here! Love gorgeousness. :)))

Oh my. Beautiful. Just beautiful, Laura. Very powerful images.
July 11, 2015 at 8:18 am
So glad you like these Lynne. I wanted to give balance to those strong skies in these images so glad you used the word powerful! Have a nice weekend!

I’m so glad you like them Amy. I like the first one the best as well. Something about the water I think.
July 11, 2015 at 3:42 pm
Also, the clouds are dramatic. 🙂
July 11, 2015 at 7:33 pm
Nothing like a little drama eh?
July 11, 2015 at 9:19 am
Wonderful!
July 11, 2015 at 9:46 am
Thanks Victor! So lucky I live close to all these places!
July 11, 2015 at 9:28 am
tripod or not these are amazing. I love the skies!!- and the light on the water in the foreground of the first! Brilliant!
July 11, 2015 at 9:46 am
Thank you so much! Yes I am SUCH a lazy tripod person lol. Glad you like the water in the first one. Me too. 🙂

I think it was a good decision to lose the tripod for these shots. Using it, you would have lost the power, the impacr, and turned these into no less beautiful but a lot more dreamy images of Mother Nature. Sometimes long exposure can be wrong for a shot. This was such a time.

Thanks Emilio. It did work out didn’t it. I really appreciate your comments!

I think Both are very good but the leading lines in the second one draw me in and won’t let me go.
July 11, 2015 at 12:23 pm
So glad you enjoy them. And I’m so glad I went! Thanks David. 🙂
July 11, 2015 at 11:32 am

Very beautiful Laura 😀

fabulous series.
(i think i would prefer b&w).
hope it’s ok to say that?
July 12, 2015 at 7:43 am
I have a B&W but not of the pier. I was going to do a long exposure of the very long pier from closer to the side, you know those typical pier long exposures but it was just way too windy. I do have a sailing one with the beams of light in B&W. I’ll post that for you. 🙂 You know me and my color though. I’m a color freak!
