The Tower and an Anniversary

The “new” Bay Bridge (between Oakland and San Francisco) has been in the making since the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989.  Part of the old bridge collapsed (which they repaired afterward) as a result of that earthquake but the bridge was deemed unsafe if another earthquake were to hit, so a new one needed to be constructed.  It took FOREVER for the new one to get built for a few reasons…one of the reasons being that the two mayors were in disagreement about the design.  It always amazed me that two people could hold up such an important project as this.

The new bridge finally opened a couple of years ago and is quite stunning!  Here’s a zoomed in image of the main tower on the east side of Yerba Buena Island in San Francisco.

One more thing……yesterday I got a notification that it has been four years since I created my blog.  Shocking!  That’s all I got folks!  Have a great weekend!

  4. Lovely image, Laura, and happy fourth birthday/anniversary from a two year old!

  5. We have not been back to the Bay Area since the bridge was completed. We’ll be in California in a few weeks returning from Taiwan with our newly adopted son! ….maybe we can make it to the area to see the bridge! I can only hope!

  6. Great capture and it just reminded me how long it has been since I have been there…about 2.5 years…I remember the construction of the bridge…thanks for sharing!!

  7. I agree with Tom, it truly is a piece of art!

  14. Cool image, and congraulations on the 4th anniversary!

  15. Two mayors can hold up a lot of things. Out here, in our part of Colorado, it’s been about a major water delivery system. 20 years behind schedule which only skyrocketed the cost of the project. The sticking point, flood and storm water control. Can’t do much when Mother Nature decides she wants to rain a lot.

Four years of blogging, you might be getting good at this. Another four more years? 🙂

    • Oh yes. The mayors hold up increased the price tag for the bridge just as yours regarding the water. Kind of makes you wonder what we are in store for 20 years from now eh? Gosh I hope it rains this winter. Maybe I’ll be blogging into my golden years!

  16. Happy Happy Blogiversary!! That is a great picture of something that will forever be beautiful, historic with a great story.

  17. Beautiful! And happy anniversary too!

  18. Congratulations on four years of blogging Laura. Here’s to the next four and many, many more for you (and the bridge 🙂 )
