Journey of a body on this earth

Benicia, California

Last night I drove to the town of Benicia, California.   Benicia is a tiny town and surprisingly served as the state capital from 1853-1854.  (The capitol of California is Sacramento.)  Originally I went to get a sunset and while I got some shots, they were not that exciting to me.  I really needed my tripod and was too lazy to go back to the car and get it, so I’m posting this instead.

While I was meandering around I met a really nice lady about my age who was also taking pictures.  We got to talking and the next thing you know we were sitting having a drink and a bowl of chowder.  I really should’ve taken a picture of the blood orange margarita I had…it was quite tasty!

  1. Feels like a Turner background

  2. Did you have dinner at The Dead Fish in Crockett?

  3. What a very interesting and beautiful photo. I really love the lighting, it adds so much to the mood!

  4. No tripod needed, but a second drink is always in order Laura!

  5. Gorgeous light, Laura. Hope you enjoyed your chowder and new friend!

  6. The lighting is superb, Laura. The wreckage lends such strength to the softness of the sunset, but at the same time it evokes a sense of decline and fragility.

  7. A Blood Orange Margarita! Sounds so yummy. Your image is lovely, warm and soft yet telling an intriguing story. Isn’t it incredible when life hands you a friend! Sounds like a lovely way to end a day.

    • Carriee!!!! Where have you been? I haven’t seen you in my stream in ages. I hope you’re doing well. A margarita and a new friend…what more can I ask for?

      • Awe, what a nice hello. I’ve been enjoying the last days of summer with my family and training for a marathon 🙂 I have posted very infrequently…sorry. I did post for the Weekly Photo Challenge this week. Had fun with it! I’ll be back at some point, just trying to keep the balance…the conundrum of life!

        • So glad you’re enjoying your summer and training for a (cough) marathon. Wow! Impressive. 🙂 I’ll have to check out your blog. I’m not in here every day like I used to be so I miss things. You know how the reader is…it only allows for so many “like” clicks. Balance is so important.

  8. Ah, no trip wasted…opportunities abound…

  9. Nice catch! 😉 Sometimes you can get a good photo without the tripod…

  10. This photo is gorgeous, Laura — and I like the friendly story too! 🙂

  17. Good morning. Love this picture. I am working on becoming a better photographer. What do you use to watermark your pictures?

    • Hello and thank you for your comment. 🙂 I made it in Lightroom under one of my Publish Services. I have the service resize my full-size images to 1000px longest side and at the bottom of the publish service parameters it gives an option to add a watermark or create one. I did it there.

  18. Love it! Not keen on chowder (the seafood kind anyway), but could probably manage it without much effort looking at this!

    Magic!
