For the last 2-1/2 months, we’ve been under a major remodel and have been living somewhere else. This past weekend we moved home and I can’t tell you how nice it is to be back home! I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished, although the kitchen is not quite done. You’ll see some missing cabinets and light bulbs, window treatments, etc. This will all be completed soon, but we wanted to come home as soon as it was habitable.
The picture of our new kitchen was taken with my D750 using my 24-120mm lens (I love that lens!). I tone-mapped it in Nik HDR and then added some sharpening.
The “before” was taken with my iPhone. You can see where the space was originally enclosed and much smaller. We opened it up and moved the fireplace to a corner in the living room. Dave is a happy camper in the kitchen last night cooking our first meal which was chicken piccata…it was yummy!

Thank you K’lee! I’m so sorry but I didn’t see this until now. The notification thingy isn’t working so well for me or it’s operator error!
September 30, 2015 at 8:48 am
Not a problem, Laura! My WP notifications sector and reader tends to have minds of their own too.
September 30, 2015 at 8:49 am
Thank you for understanding. It’s a never-ending battle with WP sometimes.
September 30, 2015 at 8:51 am
I know what you mean. Love the community, could do with less unannounced changes to the software at times! Still a great place though!

He really is! He wanted that stove more than I did haha!
September 30, 2015 at 10:01 am
I can believe it… When I cook mutton, I kick everyone out of the kitchen, switch on my Ipod and cook. Sometimes, on one leg, in a yoga pose… Like Ian Anderson playing the flute….
September 28, 2015 at 1:59 pm
That’s a nice and neat kitchen! Great photograph too, suitable for any home magazine 🙂
September 30, 2015 at 8:45 am

September 28, 2015 at 6:07 pm
house renovating is such a pain, but great once finished…….I’ve done 2 kitchens and 3 bathroom (in 2 houses)
September 28, 2015 at 6:22 pm
Eeeek!! That’s a lot. I can’t even imagine. I’m so glad we are done.
September 28, 2015 at 6:52 pm
Kitchens are the worst! I cannot believe I do two!
September 29, 2015 at 6:56 am
Yeah that’s like being a glutton for punishment! lol I’m just glad we didn’t have to live here while it was going on. We had to have a new beam put inside the ceiling since we took out a load-bearing wall. And then there’s the packing and unpacking. Not to mention our living room, office and bedroom! We had to move everything out because we got new floors too. What a job. Whew!
September 29, 2015 at 2:33 pm
Well it’s all worth it now
September 28, 2015 at 5:17 pm
Beautiful! Congratulations!
September 28, 2015 at 5:29 pm
Thank you Claire. 🙂
September 28, 2015 at 5:54 pm
Simply beautiful, Laura, and little wonder Dave looks so happy. Enjoy settling back in!
September 28, 2015 at 6:22 pm
Thank you. It’s nice to be on the downhill side of the project and enjoying it. 🙂
September 28, 2015 at 7:28 pm
Very welcome, Laura. I was drooling over your kitchen and, having been there and done that (renos, not drooling!) many times, can appreciate being in the home stretch of such endeavours. 😀
September 29, 2015 at 6:58 am
Oh c’mon, you’ve been through the drooling too LOL! But thank you so much. It’s been a long road and we are finally home. Yay! 🙂
September 29, 2015 at 8:20 am
Haha … hopefully that’s a few years away! Seriously, though, you’re welcome and enjoy that gorgeous new kitchen.
September 28, 2015 at 7:29 pm
It’s gorgeous! I can’t totally relate to badly you wanted to get back in your house. We lived in our house through a big remodel. To get all we wanted done we had to move out our 3 bedroom 2 bath home to one bedroom one bathroom. He-Man and I had our bedroom in the livingroom while daughter and grandson shared the smallest bedroom. 4 3.5 months later we were able to get back to our bedrooms and what a joy that was!
I hope you enjoy your new kitchen for years to come!
September 29, 2015 at 7:00 am
Thank you so much Circa! Wow, you really had a big adjustment as well! Especially with young ones. We moved into an 800 sq ft cottage which was very handy and in a beautiful part of town but we also had to move everything in the house out because in addition we put in new floors everywhere and had it reducted for a/c. And yes!! Sleeping in our bed is HEAVEN!!!!
September 29, 2015 at 7:02 am
Now the fun begins of unpacking! I’m slowly…slowly unpacking. I’m determined to get rid of more stuff and have less come back in.
September 29, 2015 at 7:04 am
Oh lordy yes…believe it or not I’ve already unpacked the kitchen! I did it in two solid days stopping only for something to eat. I’m glad that part’s done. I also tossed a lot of things. Dave kept bringing box after box…I was wondering if it would ever end! I’d love to see your remodel.
September 28, 2015 at 7:32 pm
ACK! I should have quit typing when He-Man came in to ask me about something. Sorry for the horrendous typing! I can’t type and talk at the same time. 😦
September 29, 2015 at 7:00 am
hahaha no worries. I do it all the time.
September 28, 2015 at 8:32 pm
Looks lovely and feels like heaven, I’m sure!
September 29, 2015 at 7:00 am
Thank you 🙂 The bed feels even better. Always nice to sleep in one’s own bed.
September 28, 2015 at 8:37 pm
Yay for home renovations! And a sweet drink to finish off the jobs 😀 Beautiful work 🙂
September 29, 2015 at 7:01 am
Thank you Mabel! We did make a cheer to the new place. 🙂

September 29, 2015 at 1:33 am
One serious cheffy looking kitchen Laura ! That is just .. so perfect 🙂 I guess we may see some mouth watering food photography shots from here in future posts 😉
September 29, 2015 at 7:02 am
hahhaa…you know, maybe I should take some photos of the food. I’ve never done it. Not that it really floats my boat but it’d be kinda fun to try some day.
September 29, 2015 at 11:59 am
Forget about the rest of the house. With your remodeled kitchen, just live in there. 🙂
September 30, 2015 at 8:47 am
I think we can make a bed in the stove. 😉
September 30, 2015 at 10:01 am
Kitchen island, with one of those tempur-pedic mattresses.
September 30, 2015 at 10:02 am

September 29, 2015 at 2:41 pm
Amazing facility, that has to have a huge impact on you finished product; I’m sure the glass of wine helps.
September 30, 2015 at 8:48 am
The wine makes it! Thanks Charlie. 🙂
September 30, 2015 at 12:54 pm
