I’m back at Mare Island. There were so many photo opportunities there. Incredible! Instead of my Nikon I used my Sony A7. I really love that camera. It’s so much easier to carry around.

Feels like a timeless photo – the stars and then the “50” on the door are elements that keep unfolding here….
June 9, 2016 at 6:59 am
“….that keep unfolding here…” Thank you! I love it when someone looks more than a glance. 🙂

I love, and want the A7
June 9, 2016 at 7:00 am
I’m tempted to sell the nikon! But it’s always nice to have a backup camera. Thanks Gav. You’d do wonders with it. I used that 16-35mm lens and wow what a lens.
June 9, 2016 at 6:42 pm
Good to hear it about your new lens.
June 9, 2016 at 6:42 pm
Thank you. I need to take some photos and not process them so people can see how good it is.

‘I need to take some photos and not process them so people can see how good it is. ‘
what a fab idea.
I turned a Flickr friend onto Sony, and now he is totally Sony 🙂

Thanks! Who’s the friend? I’d like to see his Sony shots.

I would love to have that A7 too. Nice work.
June 9, 2016 at 7:01 am
Thanks Sherry. I didn’t think I’d like that much because everyone has the latest Sony. This model is just fine with me!

Magic shot. Love the dark mood of your composition. Don’t want any other camera right now because I have my X-T1. But I follow your temptation to sell your Nikon. I dumped my full-frame Nikon D800 and 5 prime lenses and switched to Fuji’s mirrorless system. 1/3 of the weight and the electronic view finder delivers live view in optical view finder quality. But gear does not matter anyhow. Except one area: print. I still would like to have 36 MP per image to be able to print large formats. But I recognized that people are selling 30×20 cm or 60×40 cm more often than A1/A2 formats. And the Fuji delivers images which can handle that perfectly. But if you continue to have A7 on the menu I will take a closer look… one day… may be 🙂
June 9, 2016 at 9:56 am
Thank you about the magic. :). Those are all good points and the mp is especially worth noting. How bid are our prints or who wants prints ultra huge. Not many. I think it’s worth the switch to mirror less. I used the 16-35 and loved that lens! So I’m giving you camera info anyway :). Lol. It came with a kit lens 28-70 f/4 but I didn’t much like it. It was a cheap lens. Anyway I totally get the switch!

I’m trying to find one word to describe that photo.
June 9, 2016 at 4:21 pm
Weird? Magical? Subpar? lol
June 10, 2016 at 4:05 pm
Out there count? ha
June 9, 2016 at 5:24 pm
It’s surreal! I love the stars. I see a crucifix in the center, and cheese grater, and a door to…the stars perhaps? It’s beautiful.
I’m tempted by the Sony A7 camera too, but still need the DSLR for my long lens, fast focusing work. I bought the Df because it packed a lot of good stuff in a smaller package. I’d like to Nikon improve it and make it smaller if possible. I’d get another one if they did.
June 9, 2016 at 6:40 pm
Thank you! I think it’s an anchor but a cross works! I’m still keeping the Nikon but boy oh boy is the Sony handy! I suppose if I had a variety of lenses I might give up the Nikon but I have so much invested in it and it’s such a great camera. Thank you for your comments!
June 9, 2016 at 8:06 pm
Tell me about the investment! I probably should sold some of my lenses when the new versions came out, but some I didn’t upgrade I’ve kept but use less often. I always I’ll regret selling any.
June 10, 2016 at 7:40 am
I understand about regretting after selling. It’s like my macro. I hardly EVER use it but I know if I sell it, I’ll then wish I had it.
June 10, 2016 at 8:25 am
Exactly! I use my LensBaby Composer more than macro lens, but don’t dare sell it either! 🙂 I haven’t upgraded it to the newest version either. I’m still using the AF-D version.
June 11, 2016 at 5:37 pm
Yep, wonderful.
June 11, 2016 at 6:35 pm
Aye mate! Thank you!
June 22, 2016 at 5:07 am
I’m liking what you are doing. Very different tones to your photographs.
June 22, 2016 at 2:34 pm
Thanks so much. I’m hoping that I’m improving. It’s an evolutionary process I think. And a fun one!
