If you just updated photoshop to the new version via creative cloud which is Photoshop 2015.5, there are some big changes especially as it relates to Refine Edge and Masking. I’m just now starting to review these changes and naturally it’s slowed me down a bit. I’m sure I’ll get used to them eventually lol.
Here’s an article that explains the changes and how to modify your preferences. Also the video below explains the major changes. To go right to the changes related to masking, skip to 13:56.
Change is always difficult and it annoyed me that I had to learn something else but seems it’s the way of the world these days!

Clearly I need to set some time aside to see how this affects my workflow 😦
Not updating till I do. The last Bridge CC update killed Bridge on me and it took a 20 minute chat with Adobe tech support to get me running again.

Good idea. I just updated Topaz Impression the other day and my computer can’t handle it. I need a new computer with a dedicated graphics card. Sighs….I guess computers only last about 4 years a max. That’s getting really old having to spend so much money to upgrade all the time.

I also use Topaz Impression (because I liked your images). It works OK on my 5 year old iMac. A tad slow, but acceptable.

Impression 2 works? It’s way too slow for me. I’ll still be using the previous version for awhile.

I installed it but have not played with it yet.
June 28, 2016 at 4:11 pm
Oh well let me know how it (slowly) works lol.

It works fairly fast on my Dell.

I don’t have a dedicated graphics card. Next computer I will.

And I’m flattered by the way!! Thank you. 🙂

Thanks for this. Tried it today, without a good explanation. Now I think I understand it.

You’re welcome. Glad it can help! I don’t really like this auto painting thing but all the products seem to be going in that direction. Guess I will get used to it.

I never got the hang of Photoshop….I did try though.
June 29, 2016 at 7:54 am
It’s not for everyone. good you tried tho…never know until you try!
June 29, 2016 at 12:15 pm
I don’t use this feature (yet) and it sets my teeth on edge that PS is always changing and expanding. Gee, really just how much do we really need or use???? Just asking ….. 🙂 ❤

I have to mask. I rely on it a lot. I don’t use some of those other features but masking I do. It’s not bad. I’m getting used to it now but I definitely need to get a new computer! Dave isn’t thrilled LOL.
June 29, 2016 at 5:42 pm
Oh wow, a new computer. Um I understand why Dave is not too happy. These babes come with a hefty price tag. Whew!
June 29, 2016 at 6:09 pm
They do. I didn’t realize I’ve had this since 12/2012. Already ancient! Geeezzzzzz
June 29, 2016 at 6:38 pm
And the way technology screeches forward all the time … Yep ancient indeed!! 🙂

It is always the way of the world. However, I like the Face Aware Liquify Tool. I have scheduled a wee post on that tomorrow!
June 30, 2016 at 7:24 am
Cool! Ya I don’t really take people so the face thing is probably not that useful for me.

Amazing features! Very cool.
