I am totally addicted to the supermoon! And I keep singing all kinds of songs to do with the moon. So while you’re viewing these photos, you can click on this link and listen to a bit of Frank Sinatra!
A little about these images…they are not composite images. Not that I think anything is wrong with creating artful photos but I’ve been asked this about the photos on Facebook and thought you might like to know. They were taken from the Pleasanton Ridge in the east bay on Saturday and also from Walnut Creek toward Mt. Diablo on Sunday. Both days I used my Nikon D750 with the 28-300mm lens. A lot of these are aggressively cropped.
I put my favorite photo first independent of the gallery below which contains the rest of the images. Hope you enjoy them!

November 14, 2016 at 12:16 pm
Fabulous!! Really good work! Here in Norway we also have a cloudy and rainy night.
November 14, 2016 at 12:17 pm
Thank you so much. Sorry you had cloudy skies. 😦
November 14, 2016 at 12:17 pm
It was black and cloudy here too with heavy rain’ but the moon broke through at 10pm so I got to see it. So beautiful, with a big ring around it here.
Gorgeous photos Laura!
November 14, 2016 at 12:18 pm
Glad you got to see it! I might not be out taking photos in 2035 to get the next one lol! thank you Robyn. 🙂

November 14, 2016 at 4:08 pm
Aw sorry you couldn’t see it there. I’ve been hearing that from a lot of people around the world that it was cloudy. Thank you for your kind comment about my images!

November 14, 2016 at 4:08 pm

November 14, 2016 at 4:08 pm

Thank you JOHN. 🙂
November 14, 2016 at 1:55 pm
just gorgeous Laura, Melbourne put on it’s finest for a night sky event…..it seems every time we have some wonderful event, like the Super Moon, Melbourne hides it behind a wall of CLOUD…………we got nothing, zip, nada, zilch! Oh I did briefly catch a glimpse behind some cloud on the way home. 🙂
November 14, 2016 at 4:10 pm
Oh rats! I hope you get it tonight or morning or whatever time it is there now lol! I can never keep track! Thanks for your comment about my images. I’ve never been into taking the moon but I’m glad I did it this time.
November 14, 2016 at 4:34 pm
they are lovely……I have shot a few times, but I’m not overly zealous about it. If we don’t get it this week there is always next month, it wont be that much smaller apparently
November 14, 2016 at 4:53 pm
I’ve never been much of a moon person myself but this time I got the moon bug. I’ve heard it’s not much bigger later. I think this one was brighter which makes it appear slightly larger. Don’t know if I saw the difference though.
November 14, 2016 at 4:59 pm
hehehe I know what you mean
November 14, 2016 at 5:16 pm
🙂

YESSSS ❤
November 14, 2016 at 3:30 pm
Fantastic pictures! I love the one where the huge moon is next to the tree on top of Pleasanton ridge, but all of them were well worth looking at twice.
November 14, 2016 at 4:11 pm
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed them. 🙂
November 14, 2016 at 3:42 pm
Perfect!
November 14, 2016 at 4:12 pm
Thank you! I’ve never been much of a moon-taker but this time I had fun.
November 14, 2016 at 5:04 pm
Really well done Laura.
November 14, 2016 at 5:16 pm
Thank you so much! I’ve been enjoying the super moon this year.
November 14, 2016 at 5:56 pm
Wow, the trees in the feature photograph have a miniature feel to it and the moon looks as though it’s CGI’d in because it looks unreal (in the best way possible). Really cool.
November 14, 2016 at 6:22 pm
Thank you so much Steven! I guess it was because of the size of the moon and me zooming in that it looks so 3D-ish. We were in a great spot for photos!
November 14, 2016 at 6:09 pm
BEAUTIFUL work Laura!
November 14, 2016 at 6:22 pm
Thank you so much!
November 14, 2016 at 6:17 pm
Didn’t get to see it myself. Your pictures are stunning! You never fail to impress me with your captures!
November 14, 2016 at 6:23 pm
Thank you! I really appreciate it. I was in awe standing there looking at it.
November 14, 2016 at 6:24 pm
No problem Laura! 😄
November 14, 2016 at 6:31 pm

November 15, 2016 at 6:15 am
Thank you Sue!
November 15, 2016 at 7:01 am
Very nice. Weather was only fair around the SC coast but Ellen did get me out anyway. It was nice to see the moon from the shore, even if it was hidden often.
November 15, 2016 at 7:51 am
I wanted to get up early and go over to SF to catch it setting over the ocean but it was foggy and I was lazy. 🙂 Thank you!
November 15, 2016 at 9:18 am
Your photos are stunning. Did you get any sleep that night? 😀
November 15, 2016 at 9:39 am
Thank you Cee! How did you know? 😉 Actually it was the night before i didn’t sleep due to all the upcoming moon excitement!
November 15, 2016 at 9:44 am
I could tell because you got photos from different places and at different times because the moon was in a different place. I had no chance of taking a photo. We were totally clouded in. Even our weather forecasters said we would have to drive to Redding California to get photos. That is a 6.5 hour drive from here. 😀 😀
November 15, 2016 at 5:42 pm
Just a tad too far. Where are you??? We are in Danville. I had no idea you were close.
November 15, 2016 at 7:18 pm
I’m up just south of Portland, Oregon.
November 15, 2016 at 7:55 pm
Ah ok. For s second I thought you were around me!
November 15, 2016 at 10:45 am
Thank you for sharing these gorgeous photos.
November 15, 2016 at 7:52 pm
You’re welcome! Thanks for your comment. 🙂
November 15, 2016 at 2:20 pm
Impressive! 🙂 Millions of years ago, the moon was a lot closer to the earth… and it (then) always looked big (not that i was there)! 🙂
November 15, 2016 at 7:54 pm
Wouldn’t that be amazing if we could see it that size every night. You can tell me tom….you were there weren’t you!
November 16, 2016 at 3:41 am
We had nothing but clouds here…
November 16, 2016 at 7:48 am
awwww 😦
November 16, 2016 at 7:55 am
Next one!
November 16, 2016 at 7:59 am
haha!
November 16, 2016 at 6:24 am
OUTSTANDING, Laura!!! Just outstanding! I am in awe of what you have done with this full super moon! Your pictures look 3D, and surreal. Beautifully composed and edited!! WOW!!! ❤
November 16, 2016 at 7:49 am
Thank you Amy! I’ve never been very interested in moon photos until this super moon. I think it helped that I went with friends the first night. They got me excited about it. 🙂
November 16, 2016 at 10:53 am
Your images have been out of this world, Laura. You really need to be proud of what you have accomplished!! ❤
November 17, 2016 at 8:16 am
Gorgeous!!! “Aggressively cropped…” Sometimes you just have to do that! I love these, my dear. They are amazing! We didn’t get to see the Super Moon at my beach – clouds and mists and rain, alas. Thank you for sharing these!!
November 17, 2016 at 10:42 am
Thank you SO much for your comments Debi! Yes aggressively. Like that eh? 🙂
November 17, 2016 at 9:58 am
Wow .. Great images. You had fun 😃
November 17, 2016 at 10:43 am
Thank you. 🙂 I really did!
November 17, 2016 at 2:32 pm
Breathtakingly beautiful Laura. Thanks so much for sharing them all. Sadly it was too cloudy here further up the coast. Oh well…looking forward to the next time in 2052 !!!
November 17, 2016 at 5:25 pm
Thank you Andrew! I’m not quite sure but I think the next time is in 2035? Either way I might be up there to it’s the moon instead of down here. Lol.
November 17, 2016 at 3:27 pm
These are fantastic, Laura. On super moon night I only got a short glimpse of it as it peeked out from behind the clouds. I was in our hot tub and my camera was a flight of stairs away. But at least I can see her here on your site. 🙂
Blessings ~ Wendy
November 17, 2016 at 5:26 pm
Thank you so much. I find when I’m excited about something my pictures turn out so much better.
November 17, 2016 at 5:40 pm
The supermoon was really a dud for us. Too many mountains- which didn’t seem to bother you at all. So what am I complaining about? I guess just my lack of knowledge. I did get some shots but they were all overexposed so the moon almost looked like the sun coming up over the mountains. But I guarantee you. 2035? I’m going to be all over this baby!
November 17, 2016 at 6:21 pm
Atta boy! Use spot metering and meter for the moon. Don’t wait till it’s dark otherwise everything is too dark. The best is when the sunsets just after the moon rises. There are plenty of harvest moons on the horizon (no pun intended)!
November 18, 2016 at 7:37 am
Hahaha! Our supermoon didn’t rise until after it was completely dark. I could see the orange glow behind the mountain but by the time it cleared, it was smaller and whiter.
November 18, 2016 at 7:37 am
Oh yeah in the dark, that’s no fun. Guess you’ll have to wait till 2035! lol
