Continuing the tour……this is the Grand Foyer at the Paramount. Can you believe it? They just don’t build ’em like this anymore, that’s for sure. I truly adore the symmetry in this theater because it is very pronounced in the large rooms like this. What’s important to note about this incredible theater is that it is restored and not renovated and is a National Historic Landmark. I’m so glad it will live forever for future generations to enjoy.
I used my 14-24mm lens which demands a lot of perspective correction in photoshop of the leaning walls from the original RAW file. One tip for shooting interior photos like this is to stand back and give your shot a lot of room because when you correct the perspective, it takes up a lot of space in your Photoshop canvas area and ends up eliminating some of the picture area. (I prefer Photoshop and Camera raw to correct perspectives rather than Lightroom, but everyone has their method and preference.)
One suggestion might be to take a photo of your living room with a wide angle lens first and then correct it in Photoshop prior to going out for the shot you really want. This way you can see how it works and how you need to step back when taking these interior shots, .
I hope you enjoy!

Theaters back in the day were marvelous places to be entertained, a destination. Now they are just how many smaller theaters can we fit in one space and the architecture is not dramatic, it is utilitarian. These are beautiful photos of a bygone era’s that our children and grandchildren will seldom experience, thank you for preserving the past with these photos.

I’m so glad you enjoyed these pictures. I will have a few more as the week goes on. They do old movie night here where the organ plays and they spin a big wheel for prizes. They show old movies complete with the news reels and cartoons!

Golden glory! Good tips on perspective, correcting distortion can eat up a lot of the original image. Sometimes I like to leave the distortion in if it’s a pleasing effect 🙂
January 24, 2016 at 5:30 pm
Thank you Sarah. I like distortion sometimes too. Especially if there’s a large object in front.
